Course Description
Most of our energy comes directly from the Earth - predominantly as fossil fuels, but also from geothermal, wind, and hydro sources. Developing technologies for alternative energy such as solar, nuclear, biomass and fuel cells also rely on Earth resources. The potential for these energy sources will be discussed. The science behind their utilization and environmental impact (e.g. carbon sequestration and nuclear waste disposal) will be introduced and the trade-offs in making decisions for the future will be explored. Enrollment limited to 20 first year students. FYS
